Blessed Rosalie Rendu Formation Day
Tuesday, March 28, 2017
The founding members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul did not have any direct experience in serving the poor, and so they went to Sister Rosalie, a Daughter of Charity whose ministry was in the abject misery of the Mouffetard district of Paris, France. She accompanied the young men on their first home visits. Because her “beloved poor” trusted her, they trusted the students.
When their home visits were over, the students returned to her little parlor to recount what had happened and to receive her advice and guidance on how to assist those in need. There they shared the events and situations occurring in the service of those in need in order to discern more clearly what God was asking of them.
