Floors are good for walking on and dancing on…but they aren’t much fun to sleep on every night.”
Sweet Dreams Bed Program provides clean, new beds, cribs and bunk beds to infants, children, and families in need across Nassau and Suffolk County. Your contribution can help us keep children and their families in warm, safe beds, so they have one less worry at night.
The “Sweet Dreams Bed Program” was launched in 1995 in response to requests from Vincentian volunteers who discovered during home visits that children were sleeping on the floor, in beds with multiple siblings, with their parents, or on bedding that was simply inadequate. They learned that families were in need of much more than food, rent, and utility assistance – three of our top requests for aid. Often, someone will call requesting assistance for their most pressing need. The home visit enables us to sit with them in the privacy of their home and understand all of their needs. Sweet Dreams Bed Program was born to provide clean new beds to people without adequate sleeping provisions or the financial resources to acquire them.
Studies show that a child will focus better in school when they are well rested. According to the Mayo Clinic, making sure your child gets good, sound sleep ensures he or she will have a sound foundation for proper mind and body development. The same goes for working adults. We need a good night’s sleep to be most productive. In helping families rest easier, we are ultimately helping them achieve more and live better quality lives.
Every bed request is subject to evaluation by the Conference (volunteer groups) serving the family in need. Beds can only be distributed to families in towns where SVDPLI has a Conference.
